Obituary for Billy "Bill" W Wilber

Billy (Bill) Wayne Wilber 81, of Dimondale, Michigan, passed away on February 13, 2021. Bill was born in Flint, Michigan on February 15, 1939. He grew up in rural Emmet County attending a one room schoolhouse and Petoskey High school, where he played football and was a member of Future Farmers of America. After graduating, Bill moved to the west coast to attend Bible College in Los Angeles, California. In 1963 he entered the Army and served honorably in the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. Upon his return in 1965 he married Karen Sue Kidd. He earned an associates degree in horticulture from Michigan State University. After working at Cottage Gardens Inc and Landscape Development Inc, in 1984 Bill opened his own business, The Village Gardener. Bill’s deep faith, integrity, and love of others were evident in the way he ran his business and lived his life.
He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale for nearly 50 years. He and Karen were youth group leaders, active in Bible Study, Keryx Prison Ministry, and Michigan Youth Challenge. Bill and Karen’s home was always open. The Wilberness, as it is affectionately called, is a place where two generations of kids have been free to explore nature, learn about hard work, and experience unconditional love. Bill enjoyed fishing, canoeing, bird watching, catching frogs with grandkids, and gardening. He took pride in growing enough flowers for Karen’s bouquets and enough produce to share with local soup kitchens.
Bill is reunited with his wife of 55 years Karen Sue (Kidd) Wilber who passed away in October. He is survived by his son David Wilber (Jeanne Wald), his daughter Allison Kyro (Jeff Kyro), and his grandkids; Natalie Kyro, Lillian Kyro, Cecilia Wilber, and Kelton Kyro.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring.
In lieu of flowers consider making a donation in his memory to First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale. The family is being served by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
