Obituary for Charlene A. Pryor

Charlene Anne Pryor, 75, born September 3, 1942 in Lansing, MI, left this earth to rest in the arms of the Lord on January 11, 2018. Her last moments were spent accompanied by loving family, listening to Handel’s Messiah.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day…. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 It was, she said, her Coronation Service. A mark of the same faith, grace, and courage she demonstrated throughout her life.
Charlene, daughter to Luther and Elaine (Congdon) Pryor, was the oldest of seven siblings. She graduated Grand Ledge High School in 1960, then attending Central Michigan University for two years. She transferred to Michigan State University where she received her BA and MA in Music Education (plus 30 credits toward a higher degree….A fact she would proudly proclaim, “A Masters plus 30!”).
Charlene’s first years teaching were spent at Stockbridge elementary, beginning in 1964. She went on to teach Music Education at Northwest Community Schools in Jackson, MI until her retirement in 1999.
In 1970, she took one year of sabbatical and attended graduate classes at Vennard College in University Park, Iowa, to deepen her Biblical knowledge and grow her Christian faith.
Charlene touched many lives with her musical talent and passion for teaching. She tutored, taught piano lessons, and directed her church choir. She also shared her talent for many years as pianist for the Trinity Wesleyan Church, where she was a member of the congregation.
In addition to music, she will be remembered for her love of family, her friends, her enthusiasm for traveling, and her razor sharp wit. Her spirit, stories, and laughter could fill a room.
Charlene is survived by her brother Bryon Pryor, five sisters: Cheryl Sturgis, Carol Pryor, Caren Pryor, Colleen (John) Hamill, Charisse (William) Mullins; ten nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther & Elaine (Congdon) Pryor.
Special thanks to the staff at Allegiance Health Hospital in Jackson, MI for their dedicated care.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Jackson, MI. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to one of the following organizations held dear by Charlene, World Vision or The IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer) Network Foundation
