Obituary for Ellen Janet Otto

Ellen Janet Otto 86 passed away peacefully on June 28, 2017 at Independence Village in Grand Ledge MI. Born in Lansing MI on July 28, 1930 to Earnest John and Viola (Tucker) Mansfield, Ellen was one of ten children including: Ruth Rebecca, Ernest George, Viola Muriel, Lillian Mae, Marjorie Marion, Mildred Elizabeth, Alice Gertrude, Laura Alberta and Anna Marie. Ellen spent her childhood in Laingsburg, MI and adolescence in Lansing, MI where she graduated from Sexton High School in 1948.
Following High School, Ellen worked in the accounting department at Fisher Body where she met a young engineer, Kenneth Alvin Otto (1928-2010) whom she married in 1952. Together they raised three children. In addition to being a mother and homemaker Ellen worked for several years in the Payroll Department at Knapps Department Store. In her free time Ellen enjoyed bird watching, gardening, sewing, reading, history, puzzles and domestic travel.
In retirement Ellen and Ken spent their summers on Platte Lake, Honor Michigan and winters in Zepher Hills, FL. Afterwards, they moved to Greenville, MI and eventually resided in Grand Ledge MI.
Ellen is survived by her three children: Jeanette Ogonowski (Douglas), John Otto (Carol) and Rebecca Otto (Steve Zlotolow), four grandchildren Heather Ogonowski, Carrie Ogonowski, Jeff Ogonowski, and Katie Otto, her sister Mildred Warren and numerous nieces and nephews. In honoring Ellen’s wishes, private family services will be held. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of choice in memory of Ellen Otto. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.
