Obituary for Frederick Franklin Reed Jr.

Frederick Franklin Reed Jr. “Bebo”, born January 7, 1928, passed away December 23, 2018 in Grand Ledge, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Harriet, wife Joann (Fildey), sons Harold and Douglas, and granddaughter Binha. Survived by his brother Richard, sons, Daniel and Mark, daughter Julie, son-in-law Clayborne Stewart, daughter-in-law Diane (Robinson); grandchildren: Sara, Jade and Nicolas, great grandchildren, nephews, and partner Lu Mayhew.

Fred was born in Chicago, IL. At a young age he and his brother moved to the UP to be raised by their aunt and uncle. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and then moved to East Lansing, MI to attend MSU.

Married, raised a family and retired after 36 years at Oldsmobile; went on to have family cafes and restaurants: The Sensuous Bean, Julies Catering and Bebos. He loved playing with his grandchildren and showing them all the secret spots at the capital and the coolest playgrounds.

He was a lifetime member and past commander and was a part of the color guard with VFW Post 701.

Fred was known for his sarcasm and witty replies, loved practical jokes, poker, a good game of euchre, dressing up and scaring kids at Halloween; loved his family and extended families; enjoyed fall colors and green trees, the water, motorcycles, trading his watches with Indians, a good junk car and his country. He was quite the charmer with those baby blues and that smile.

We want to thank Fairview AFC for taking care of Fred and putting up with Julie and Lu. We also thank McLaren Hospice for taking care of Fred and putting up with Julie and Lu. Thank our friends for our countless questions and their love and support in so many ways. Also, we thank you Lu and Clayborne for always being there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The Shriners Hospitals or your local VA hospital in memory of Frederick Reed Jr.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the V.F.W. Post 701, 123 N. Rosemary St., Lansing, MI 48917. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com

Now my father please be at peace, get on your motorcycle and ride into the sunset. Till we meet again.
