Obituary for Gaylynn Rorabaugh

Gaylynn (Cherry) Rorabaugh, 70, of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away on December 10, 2020. She was born on May 3, 1950 in Lansing, MI to proud parents Orvin and Doris (Maxwell) Cherry.
In 1968, Gaylynn graduated from Everett High School. After raising her two children, she returned to school in 1993 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University. Two years later, she graduated from Wayne State University with a master’s degree in library science. Always a lover of books, Gaylynn was the head librarian at Big Rapids Community Library for over 16 years, where she made lifelong friends and inspired countless young readers.
Retirement allowed Gaylynn to spend time doing the things she loved most. Octobers were spent in Pensacola Beach, Florida, combing the beach for shells with her sister Faye. As a master gardener, her knowledge of plants knew no bounds. Her family and friends always knew to call Gaylynn if they had any gardening questions. Consistently filled with a multitude of beautiful flowers, Gaylynn’s gardens were always showstoppers. But those who knew her best knew that her children and grandchildren were what she was most proud of. She was a true “horse show mom” and could always be found at her children and grandchildren’s horse shows, cheering them on.
Gaylynn leaves behind her two children, Matthew (Theresa) Rorabaugh and Sarah (Dave) Beaudoin; grandchildren Matalyn and Nathan Rorabaugh; sister Melinda (Michael) Downey; sister and best friend Faye Hardin; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly; and her beloved dog Trixie.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Capital Area Humane Society - or plant a few flowers and think of Gaylynn when they bloom.
A memorial service will occur at a later date. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
