Obituary for Holly Marie McAnally

Miss Holly Marie McAnally, 67, a former C.A.C.S. Head Start Bus Driver, Loving Mother, Mother-in-Law, and Friend to all, passed away Monday, May 9, 2021 in Lansing, MI.

Holly was born on November 13, 1953 in Morehead City (Cherry Point Marine Base), North Carolina, and moved to Flint, MI shortly after. Her parents were Charles & Marian McGovern of Flint, MI. Her sister is Barbara Vizard (Husband David Vizard). Her sons are Michael David McAnally (D1991), and Mark Edward McAnally (Wife Sara McAnally) of Lansing, MI.

While in Flint, MI Holly enjoyed growing up with her Dad Chuck who raced motorcycles. It was through him that she raced motorcycles in the AMA on ice. Holly met her future husband Michael McAnally while working at the Flint Airport as a waitress at the Café there. They were married in 1973, and in 1975 gave birth to their first son, Michael McAnally while living in Saginaw, MI. Shortly after, they were relocated to the Lansing, MI area so that Mike could work at Capital City Airport. It was there, that they moved to Wacousta, MI, and resided on Corrison Rd. Not too long after moving there, Holly gave birth to her second son Mark McAnally in 1979. During her time in Wacousta, she was a stay-at-home mom, taking care of her two boys. We all know how she tried to keep us under control, but let’s face it; we were a lot to handle! Thank goodness for the round dining room table, but boy, was she fast. She enjoyed the moments she had while living in Wacousta, and all the wonderful people she met while there. Holly made a life altering decision in 1987 when she divorced. Holly continued living in Wacousta till the passing of her son Michael McAnally on July 6th, 1991. The unfortunate passing that happened in front of her house was too much for her to handle, and she moved to Grand Ledge, MI in 1992.

While living in Grand Ledge, MI Holly was excited to be a C.A.C.S. Head Start Bus Driver for over 25 years. She really enjoyed seeing the beautiful smiles of her preschool students every day. Holly was so devoted in her employment that she was awarded perfect attendance several times as well as Top Driver during her employment. She really looked forward to the local and state school bus rodeo competitions. It was there that she won several awards, and made it to the state bus rodeo competition a couple of times. In 2011 Holly decided to move to Potterville, MI and purchase a house on Nelson St. It was here that she enjoyed the nice double lot, beautiful lilac trees, and working on various puzzles projects in the basement. She also enjoyed collecting Boyd’s Bears Figurines, and Beanie Babies which she proudly showcased. Unfortunately, Holly had to retire in 2016 due to health reasons. After her retirement, she kept very busy volunteering at Ledge Craft Lane in Grand Ledge. Holly was a longtime volunteer and always made sure to give back to the community. She enjoyed volunteering and working with the Grand Ledge Area Youth Football Program for the boys and girls for ten years in Grand Ledge, MI during both her sons time in the program. Every year, you could see Holly helping out down at the Island in Grand Ledge with the Island Art Fair, and Color Cruise. She really enjoyed seeing everyone and being there helping out. She will be deeply missed.

Holly was preceded in death by her father Charles McGovern in 1982, her son Michael McAnally in 1991, and her mother Marian McGovern in 1994. She is survived by her Son Mark McAnally (Wife Sara McAnally) of Lansing, MI, her sister Barbara Vizard (Husband David Vizard) of Sand Point, MI, her Nephew Mac Vizard of Sand Point, MI; also many of her very closes cousins, and longtime friends who she loved dearly, including her most favorite dog Bailey.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 – 11:00 a.m. at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with interment to follow at Wacousta Cemetery, Watertown Twp., Clinton Co. Visitations will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Reception to follow at the Pavilion at Looking Glass Park in Wacousta, MI located next to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made in memory of Holly McAnally may be made to Ledge Craft Lane, 120 S. Bridge St., Grand Ledge, MI 48837.
