Obituary for James M. Mandeville

James M. Mandeville, 70, of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by family on December 3, 2020. He was born June 17, 1950 in Lansing, MI, son of William Donovan and Margaret Louise (Brabon) Mandeville.
Jim enlisted in the US Army in 1969. He trained to be a medical corpsman then was transferred to Quan Tri Vietnam where he flew many helicopter missions into hot LZs to administer first aid and evacuate the wounded.
During his tour he was promoted to Specialist 4 and received many Air Medal awards. Then in Germany, Jim was a line medic with an infantry battalion. In recognition of his contributions as a medic and mentor Jim was promoted to the rank of Specialist 5 which he held until his discharge in 1972.
After serving in Vietnam, Jim attended University of Michigan Flint to receive an AB in History with academic honors. In 1983 he entered Michigan State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Jim's greatest calling in his clinical career was oncology and end of life care. He was a home hospice nurse for many years. His skilled, caring, compassionate nature served our hospice community well. He was the Clinical Manager of the Sparrow Hospice House of Mid Michigan from 2009 until he retired. He was well respected by all who worked beside him. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring nursing students who were interested in end of life care careers.
Many of the families he helped through the loss of a loved one still corresponded with him in recent years. Jim was a voracious reader. He enjoyed countless hours of reading books on history and was a literary expert on the Civil War. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry.
Jim loved family get togethers especially the pool parties where all the family would gather. He was the cutest pool boy in town!
He cherished his relationships with Courtney, James and Karen and enjoyed telling an abundance of Papa jokes to the Kylee, Nolan and Zayne. Most of all he loved spending time with his Nancy. Outings were always "Another Adventure of Jim and Nancy".
Jim touched the hearts of everyone he met! Not only does he leave a large loving family he leaves many dear friends, especially Ed Hoort and Rance Ellis, his friends for over 45 years.
We’d like to thank Sparrow Hospice Services for all their love and care. With special thanks to Jim's nurse Miranda, and Mark, Rachel and Sue.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Lonnie Entrekin. Survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy, son James Page, daughters Courtney (Kris) Church and Karen Page; 3 grandchildren: Kylee, Nolan, Zayne; second love of his life and devoted companion, his golden doodle Lucy; brother Joseph (Rosalie) Mandeville, sisters Mary Kane and Lora Entrekin; Brothers- in- law Jim Kahren, John (Amy) Kahren, Michael (Melissa) Kahren and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
