Age 96, died of natural causes on August 6, 2020 at her summer home in Harrison, MI. Dr. Burnett was born February 19, 1924 in Flint, a daughter of Chester M. Bullard (1885 -1968) and Anna Katheryn (Krasser) Bullard (1885-1979). Jean obtained a Ph.D. in Zoology from Michigan State University (MSU) in 1952 and performed scientific research and taught at Harvard Medical School and MSU. She had an exceptional enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed national and international travel, spending time in Florida, Arizona, and Michigan each year of her later life, long daily walks, and anything Mickey Mouse. Jean is survived by nephew John C. Bigler, and nieces Ruth (Bigler) Peterson, Beth (Bigler) Hubbell, Katheryn (Bullard) Nissen, Mary (Bullard) Weaver, many great nieces and nephews, and long-time friends Irene Brown, Jim Charles, June Marsh, Richard Roland, Lori Wallrath and many others. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther B. (Bullard) Bigler (1911-1992), brother John E. Bullard (1914-1987), niece Jane (Bigler) Biell (1947-2013), husband of 40 years James R. Burnett (1923-1987), a MSU Computer Science Professor, and Grant M. Haist (1922-2015), her companion of 25 years and a Kodak chemist. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, August 14th at First Presbyterian Church (162 Bridge St., Dimondale, MI 48821) with Rev. Scott L. Crane officiating. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic face masks are required at the church. Interment following at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint. Family and close friends will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Arrangements were made by Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Memorial donations may be made to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (3860 N. Long Lake Road, Suite D, Traverse City, MI 49684) specified for the former TaPiCo Boy Scout Camp property preservation and restoration and the Michigan Nature Association (2310 Science Parkway, Suite 100, Okemos MI 48864).
