MSG Didsbury, John A. U.S. Army (Ret.) born December 14, 1926 in Waterbury, CT., died February 15, 2021 in Portland, MI at the age of 94. John was preceded in death by his wife Frances; parents, Charles and Alice Didsbury; brother, James Didsbury, and daughter, Edith Smith. He is survived by his stepsons, Mark Newman of Portland, Matthew (Janice) Newman of Crystal, Luke (Laura) Newman of Lyons, and John Newman of Muir; 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
A Veteran of World War II, Korea, and the Cold War with 23 years of service served at various posts in the United States, and overseas in Germany, Italy, Austria, Korea, Philippine’s, and Okinawa; also served as an ROTC instructor at Denby High School in Detroit and at Michigan State University. John retired from the Army in September 1968. He worked at the American Red Cross in Lansing with mobile blood units retiring in June 1988.
John enjoyed woodworking, reading, travel, outdoor work, and walking the mall. He was a member of the American Legion and the 88th Infantry Division Association.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 – 1:00 p.m. at Delta Center Cemetery, 7301 W. St. Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
