Obituary for Lonnie Earl Brewer

Lonnie Earl Brewer, 63, of Grand Ledge, Michigan, passed away on June 22, 2021 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was born February 4, 1958 in Saginaw, Michigan, son of Earl and Kay Brewer. Lonnie retired from General Motors after thirty years of service; first at Saginaw Steering Gear, then Lansing Grand River Assembly.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Earl Brewer; brother, Timothy Scott Brewer; and cousin, Bonnie Eaves. He is survived by his husband, Michael John Kegley II after twenty-five years together in love; his children: Katie, Bonnie, and Andrew; grandchildren: Merick, Noah, McKenzie, and Oliver - with and one on the way, Adalyn; sister, Virginia Baase; and cousins, Cari and Scott - who called him “Uncle Lon.”

Lonnie had an unmistakable laugh and a generous heart and was loved by everyone he met . . . unless they said anything mean to someone he loved. He was devoted to his children and adored his grandchildren.

He had a passion for quilting and produced award-ribbon winning quilts, including one that he was most proud for “best use of colors.” He was brilliant with his color selection, and meticulous with his piecing, some of his quilts having six thousand pieces or more. Two of his quilts were juried-in to two American Quilting Society shows, a great honor.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and his ashes will be interred at Wacousta Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Lonnie suffered from a condition known as Non-Specific Interstitial Pneumonia, a type of Pulmonary Fibrosis disease. Please donate in the name of Lonnie Brewer, so that a cure and/or treatments to prolong life for sufferers of this terrible disease can be found. You can find his tribute page at https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/PFFTribute/LonnieBrewer, where donations can be made.

Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
