Obituary for Pearle Agnes LaLumia

Pearle passed away peacefully in her home with the support of her family and Hospice of Lansing. During her life, Pearle was committed to her husband Frank of 49 years and to the raising of her three sons David, Frank, and Paul.
Both her husband Frank in 1995 and her son Paul in 1968 preceded Pearle in death. She is survived by her son David (Julie) LaLumia and her son Frank (Paula) LaLumia. She is also survived by five granchildren: Cara LaLumia-Barnes (Jason), Julia LaLumia, Luke LaLumia, Nathan LaLumia and Zachary LaLumia. She was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Theodore and Eleanora (Cara), Jackson and Ava (Julia).
Born in Athol, Idaho, Pearle was orphaned at the age of 8 and spent the rest of her childhood at the Hutton Settlement in Spokane, Washington. As a young adult, Pearle joined the WWII effort by enlisting in the Navy as part of WAVES - Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. After being trained in Bronx, New York, she served two years in Pantaloona, California where she met her husband Frank. The couple settled in Chicago, Illinois and Pearle resided in the Chicago area for fifty plus years surrounded by Frank's wonderful, close knit Italian family. At the age of 77, Pearle moved to Lansing, Michigan to be closer to her son David and his family. She remained in the Lansing area until her passing at the age of 98.
Pearle is remembered as a lover of reading, travel, current events and sports spectating. After moving to Michigan, she adopted the MSU Spartan basketball team and the Detroit Tigers and rarely missed a game. She had a wonderful no-nonense attitude, tremendous energy, and a strong desire to do her part. We are grateful for the blessing of her presence in our lives.
A funeral mass and burial alongside her husband at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetary in Illinois will occur at a later time. Anyone interested in making a donation in memory of Pearle might consider the Hutton Settlement at
