Obituary for Phyllis Ann Milligan

Phyllis Ann Milligan (nee Herriman) was born September 1, 1939 in Tawas Township, MI, the daughter of Allan and Vera Herriman. Phyllis went to be with her Lord on March 22, 2019, at the home of her daughter Aleina Milligan in Columbia, KY.

Phyllis graduated from Tawas Area High School in 1957. She attended Edward W Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1960. She then worked as a Registered Nurse part time at Lansing General Hospital in Pediatrics and later at Charlotte Medical Care Facility. In 1975, Phyllis began working at the US Postal Service as a clerk in Grand Ledge. In 1984, she became the Postmaster of the Sunfield Post Office. Phyllis made many friends through her work as the Postmaster; friends that she valued for years. She later retired in 1999 to spend more time with her husband and family.
Phyllis married Bill Milligan April 15, 1960. They had three beautiful children followed by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren who brought abundant joy to Phyllis in her later years. Phyllis, Bill and their family attended the Nashville Baptist Church. In addition she recently attended the Grand Ledge Baptist Church with her daughter Kelly. Phyllis’s faith was a continuous source of comfort to her. Her warm, caring nature allowed her to make friends easily and often help others in time of need. Family, friends and faith filled Phyllis with joy and purpose. She loved spending time with all who stopped by for a visit. Phyllis was an avid gardener. Her flower gardens were beautiful and her vegetable gardens prolific. She also enjoyed reading, drawing and painting.

Phyllis is survived by 2 daughters; Aleina Milligan (Steve Corbin) of Columbia KY. and Kelly Milligan of Grand Ledge, MI; Granddaughters Samara Spillane of Columbia, KY., Daniele Milligan of Hastings, MI and Charlie Milligan of Hastings; Step-Grandson Jared Corbin of Lexington, KY; two great grandchildren Roman Milligan and Aurora Taylor. Phyllis is survived by three brothers; Lowell (Eldene) McCardle, Ken (Bonnie) Herriman and Jim (Denise) Herriman; two sisters Joy (Ron Maloney) and Donna Lier (Dan Karbowski). Phyllis is also survived by two brothers-in-law; Roger Whitford and Larry Milligan. In addition, she is survived by a close friend and supporter, Debbie Siple. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Bill in March 2004, son Joe in March 2017, her parents, sister Faye Whitford and sister-in-law Charlene Milligan.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Grand Ledge Baptist Church 1120 W Willow Hwy on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728 (Books will be purchased in memory of Phyllis Milligan).
