Obituary for Robert Earl Corey

Robert Earl Corey, our beloved Dad and Gramps, finished his journey here on Earth and went to live forever with his wife Gloria on Monday, January 18th, 2021. Robert was born on December 5, 1926 to Orie and June Corey in Potterville, Michigan. Robert proudly served in the Army during WWII in the Philippines, and he was honorably discharged as a Tech Sargent in 1946. He married Gloria Dubendorf on May 6, 1950. They lived most of their married life in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Robert began his career at the Loan Deposit Bank in Grand Ledge in 1947, where he eventually became the Vice President. In 1967, he became Vice President of Michigan National Bank. Eventually, Robert left the banking business and started working for Harry O. Culp Insurance Agency in 1975. Three years later he opened his own insurance agency, Corey Insurance, where he retired from in 1997. Robert was an active member in the Grand Ledge Rotary where he held several offices and was the treasurer for 26 years. He was a founding member of the American Legion Cole-Briggs Post 48 where he held several offices, and was awarded a lifetime membership in August of 2016. Robert also served as a member of the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce holding many offices within the Chamber. Robert loved to play golf, and for many years he and Gloria were members of the Portland Country Club and the Grand Ledge Country Club. In, July 2003, after having spent many winters in Florida, Robert and Gloria decided to move permanently to Brooksville, Florida so they could enjoy playing golf year round. They became members of the High Pointe Golf Community and made several special friends there. Robert was an avid fisherman and loved being on the water. He enjoyed fishing for blue gill, crappie, perch, and walleye with anyone who would join him. He was mainly a “pan fisherman” because, to him, they were the best eaters. He would frequently bring home his limit of fish, clean them, and generously share his catch with friends and family. Robert’s other interests included bowling, hunting, snowmobiling, and polka dancing. He experienced many achievements in his lifetime, but his greatest achievement was his family. Robert never missed an opportunity to boast about his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved being in the company of his family and was truly happiest when surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Gloria. Robert is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Rick Merrifield, Ann and Doug Wagner, and Susan and Edward Piercefield. He is the beloved Gramps to Erin (Brian) Nimphie, Sara (Michael) Bell; Corey (Samantha), Stefani, Jacob (Rebecca) and Benjamin Wagner; Bonnie and Aimee Katalenich; and Steven Corey. He is survived by his five great grandchildren: Grace, Evalynne, Easton, Lauren, and Leo. Robert is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Brewbaker, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for both Robert and Gloria will be held 11:00 am July 23, 2021 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, 301 E. Jefferson St., Grand Ledge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Grand Ledge Rotary or The American Legion Cole-Briggs Post 48 in honor of Robert Corey. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
